What's included in this test?

Prostate specific antigen

PSA or Prostate Specific Antigen is a protein secreted by the prostate gland into the bloodstream. Elevated PSA levels can be an indicator of prostate cancer, but PSA test results alone are not sufficient for a prostate cancer diagnosis as benign prostate conditions can also cause PSA levels to rise (false positives). Additionally, a false negative may occur when PSA levels are normal despite the presence of prostate cancer.

Sampling special instructions

Prepare for your PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) Blood Test by following the instructions contained within your test kit. It is advised to avoid engaging in heavy exercise for 48 hours prior to the test. Additionally, please refrain from ejaculating for 48 hours before the test, as it may affect the PSA levels. It is important to note that abstaining from sexual activity for this duration helps in obtaining accurate test results. As for biotin supplements, it is recommended not to take them for two days before the test. If you have been prescribed biotin supplements, it is advisable to discuss this with your doctor to ensure appropriate guidance. These instructions will contribute to obtaining reliable and accurate results for the PSA blood test.
